Waddlers are babies who are on the move, usually from 8 to 14 months. Babies this age are developing a real personality and will reward you with laughter, funny faces, and affectionate hugs. First steps and first words are exciting events. A greater sense of independence begins to develop as children begin to walk, run, and climb with greater skill. You also may notice that toddlers this age love to imitate everything - pretending to talk on the phone is a favorite activity. Growth during this time is still rapid, but height and weight gains are not as dramatic. As growth decreases, appetite decreases and children may eat less.

Ratio: 1 adult to 5 babies. Maximum of 8 babies in the room.

Daily Sheets: You will receive a daily sheet of your baby’s activities each day. Information includes diaper changes, feedings, naps and items needed.

For Parents of Waddlers

Items to Bring: Bottles, Baby food, diapers, wipes, change of clothes (at least 2 full sets) Blanket.

Bottles: Other than heating a bottle, we are not permitted to prepare your baby’s bottle in any way. The parent/ guardian must prepare bottles. Bottles must be labeled with your child’s name and the date (we suggest using masking tape) in accordance with NC State Law. Empty bottles will be rinsed and stored in your child’s cubby.

Food: All jars of baby food must be labeled with your child’s name and date. Table food will be introduced at the parent’s direction. Breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack are available when your child starts eating table food. The daily menu is posted in the lobby.

Infant Feeding Schedule: An infant feeding schedule is required for your child. ANY changes must be made in writing. All schedules will be posted in the room in accordance with NC State Law. Please update monthly or as needed.

Linens: Your child will be assigned a crib. Crib sheets are changed at least once a day, more often if necessary. You do not have to provide a sheet unless your child is allergic or sensitive to the laundry detergent we use. Please bring a picture of your family to post in the crib

Medication: Medication will be administered to your child provided we have a completed medicine slip. Medicine slips must be specific- “as needed” cannot appear on the slip. Fever reducers (Tylenol, Motrin) require a doctor’s note. This note can be kept on file. Do Not leave medication in your diaper bag. All medication (including powder, chapstick and diaper cream) must be secured in a locked medicine box in accordance to NC State Law.

Moving up: Babies typically move up to the Toddler Room when they can walk steadily.(15 months)

Drop-off Time: Babies must be dropped off by 10 a.m. Children are not to be dropped off after 10 a.m. without a phone cal to the office.

Sick Policy: If your baby is sent home due to a fever, vomiting or diarrhea, he/she must remain home for a minimum of 24 hours or have a note from the pediatrician. This not only protects your child but it also protects the other children in the room. Please see your Parent Handbook for details.
